StarlaStyle Special Tips
  • Plan to relax the morning of the event. Try to arrange your make-up artist and hairstylist to come to you so that by the time the party comes around you don’t too look frazzled and stressed. It is usually too late to change anything the day of, so plan ahead and let things fall as they may for the celebration at hand.
  • In the months prior to the special event, go through magazines and pick out different images, then decide which you like best you for your theme or type of occasion. Arrange to have a consultation with a makeup artist before the event so the artist can prepare for the type of look your after. This way you will be contented because there will be no big unwanted surprises the day of the big celebration. Keep in mind that your makeup should not look like everyday makeup due to the fact that you want to be able see your face in pictures and when you are standing far away from people. Your makeup should not look unnatural; it should just enhance your natural features.
  • Discuss your foundation color with your makeup artist so that you can be sure not to have too light or too dark skin on your face (compared to the rest of your body) for your event. You want your skin tone to match exactly with your foundation (if your tanning, wait until you’re the color you want to be for the wedding to match your foundation). Talk also about what powder to use because powder can make your face look white in pictures due to the reflection of the camera flash. Use little to no powder if possible or touch up with a bronzer. (If you have gold undertones in your skin use a gold or neutral based foundation—NOT PINK! Some people don’t like their gold skin tone or want to "brighten" their face so they try to change it by using pink foundation. This is the worst thing you can do—especially for pictures. To get your skin brighter you must accent your features with colors that look great on YOU—eyes, cheeks and lips. Use your natural skin tone and you will be much happier with the outcome.)
  • Make sure you buy your lipstick and liner before the day of the event. You can touch up your lips throughout the evening. All other makeup should stay on with out touchups.
  • Use waterproof mascara, eyeshadow base and water-resistant eyeliner for tearproof eyes. Make sure to use concealer under the eyes, purple undertones can appear through regular foundation (match your skin or use a hint lighter—not white). There is also a lipstick sealant to waterproof your lips. Your consultant should know about this.
  • Don’t forget about your brows; they frame and detail the face showing personality. Shape your eyebrows before the celebration day. If they come out wrong or your face turns red this could be devastating. Have your make-up artist touch them up at your consultation and this should give you plenty of time to be ready for your big day.
  • Don’t confuse your makeup artist with your hairstylist. It is important to see pictures of other people that the "makeup artist" has made-up. If your hairdresser or a relative tells you they will do your makeup to help you out, you may regret the results. Think about how much work you’ve put into pulling this celebration together and how you need to look beautiful.
  • Hydrate your skin by drinking more water than usual and get enough rest. This will allow your skin to look very healthy and bright. If your skin is dry or flaky it is much harder to cover, you want your skin to be brilliant.
  • If you are a do-it-yourself kind of girl, at least have a consultation beforehand and you can practice how you are going to apply the makeup for the event. If you are getting married out of town, find someone who has great credentials or ask someone who lives in the area to find you a reputable artist and book them in advance.
  • When the day is complete and you look back at the pictures and memories you will be glad you took that extra step to take care of yourself!
